In 2013, when it first came out it was released in 2013. The PS4 has become not just one of Sony’s most successful consoles but it’s also become one of the top-selling gaming platforms of all time. Yet, Sony is now looking to sell the PS5 as the primary hardware, meaning that the PS4 is naturally coming to its end. In the wake of new announcements from Sony it is now possible to get an indication of the date when PS4 will officially go out of service.
As revealed in Sony’s most recent presentation of its financials, it stated that games available for PS4 will be gone by 2025. However, this doesn’t mean that the old PS4 games will no longer be available for purchase. However, Sony is clearly planning to be done with releasing new games for the platform before the end of the year.
Instead, by 2025, Sony has projected that the bulk of its profits generated by games will be from PlayStation 5, with titles that are available on PC and mobile devices also bringing around a quarter of its earnings.
As a whole, this surely shouldn’t come as a surprise considering that the PS5 is expected to be Sony’s primary future focus for years to future. It’s worth noting that as of right now, this is a time when the PS4 is a system that Sony is still producing and releasing games for cheap D2R ladder items. In fact, this year’s most popular PlayStation game God of War Ragnarok is scheduled to arrive on PS4 in the event that it ever does.
